TxDOT Bringing Anti-DWI Lotería Game to Buc Days

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - The Texas Department of Transportation is bringing a special game of Lotería to Buc Days on Sunday, aimed at reminding people not to drink and drive. It's part of a statewide public awareness campaign called "Drink. Drive. Go to Jail. De Veras."

A TxDOT street team will be parking a Lotería truck at 222 Shoreline Boulevard, near Kinney Street, from noon-8 p.m. Sunday. There, they will invite people to participate in the fun bingo-like game featuring imagery that discourages drinking and driving.

TxDOT hopes to not only remind people of the dangers of drunk driving, but also to save lives among the growing Hispanic population in South Texas.

According to TxDOT, there were 25,158 DUI-related crashes in Texas in 2013. 8,702 of those crashes resulted in serious injuries, and 1,022 resulted in deaths. Of those crashes, nearly 37-percent involved a Hispanic driver.
