Hooks Finish Homestand with Rout of RoughRiders

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (CC Hooks) - Andrew Aplin and Preston Tucker combined for seven RBIs as Corpus Christi dispatched Frisco 11-2 Monday at Whataburger Field before 4,617. The RoughRiders (16-8) fell for just the fourth time in 19 games as Corpus Christi (14-10) earned a series split.

Michael Dimock (1-0) earned his first Double-A triumph as the Hooks' most effective reliever. Dimock walked one, fanned one and allowed a hit in 2 1/3 innings.

Two bases-loaded, two-out hits boosted Luis Cruz and the Hooks to a 4-0 third-inning bulge. Aplin's shot through the box scored Tyler Heineman and Jio Mier, who'd stroked one-out singles. Two-out walks to Nolan Fontana and Matt Duffy from Alec Asher sandwiched Aplin's single before Tucker delivered a book-rule double on the right-center field berm.

Rene Garcia's lead-off homer landed in the Corpus Christi bullpen, extending the lead to 5-0.

Cruz was done after an efficient two hits and four strikeouts over just four frames. He threw 44 pitches.

Reliever Ruben Alaniz walked the first two RoughRiders he faced and each ultimately reached the pay station as Frisco pulled within three. Ryan Rua crossed when Patrick Cantwell hit into a double play and Teodoro Martinez sprinted home on Luis Sardinas' two-out single.

Leo Heras' RBI triple forced Asher (1-3) from the game with none away in the home sixth. Reliever Jon Edwards immediately uncorked a wild pitch and Corpus Christi's lead was restored to five runs at 7-2.

When Alaniz issued a two-out walk to Jake Skole during the seventh, his night ended. Alaniz walked four and allowed two hits over 2 2/3.

Aplin's splasher in the right-field pool off Edwards with Joe Sclafani aboard and a Tucker screamer off the Coastal Bend Chevy Dealers sign beyond the right-field bullpen made it 10-2. Sclafani's RBI three-bagger off Ryan Rodebaugh accounted for the final margin.

Sardinas owns a 10-game hitting streak.

The Hooks travel to Midland for a quick four before returning to Whataburger Field Saturday-Tuesday vs. arch-rival San Antonio in the I-37 Series.
