CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - A total of 2,277.66 pounds of expired, unwanted or unused prescription drugs were collected at this past weekend's Drug Take-Back Day. Kiii-TV is proud to say that about 351 pounds of that was collected right here at our studios.

Drug Take-Back Day was held this Saturday at the same time as Shred Day, resulting in a long line of vehicles stretching down SPID from La Palmera Mall to our Kiii-TV studios, which was just one drop-off location in town for Drug Take-Back Day. Other locations included local HEB grocery stores and Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi.

The event is hosted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, and aims to prevent pill abuse by helping residents rid their homes of unwanted prescription drugs. Studies show that the majority of abused drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the ones found in your own medicine cabinet.
