Grand Opening to Celebrate Finished Chaparral Street Project

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - After 17 months of construction, the newly revamped Chaparral Street is complete with widened sidewalks, colorful brick pavers, new landscaping and moveable barriers.

The project was part of the voter-approved 2008 Bond, and to celebrate the project's completion, the City of Corpus Christi is holding a grand opening block party in conjunction with ArtWalk at 5 p.m. Friday.

Chaparral Street business owners say they are happy the construction is done.

"We struggled through it, but I know that this is going to attract more businesses," said Richard Lomax of Water Street Oyster Bar. "We've been committed to renovating downtown since day one of 30 years of this business, and it's finally looking like some big things are happening down here."

The Downtown Management District said they hope the new street renovations will allow for future events and festivals in the area.
