John Paul II High School Students Return from Rome

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - It was a moment that will go down in history -- the day Rome became a historic crossroads for four men of the cross.

Pope Francis, aided by his predecessor Benedict, canonized two of the Catholic church's former holy fathers on Sunday, and 3News followed some students from John Paul II High School who were able to be a part of that big day.

"It was so cool to see everyone at once. Pope Benedict, he's still there, whenever he was there and all the Italians went crazy," John Paul II Senior Cameron Galvan said. "Then Pope Francis. I couldn't wrap my mind around it."

The students left Corpus Christi and made the long trek to Rome last Thursday to experience the once in a lifetime moment. Along with witnessing the canonization ceremony, the kids got to enjoy all that Rome has to offer -- especially the food!

"Let's just say the food was amazing. The gelato was even better. Had two a day, maybe," John Paul II Senior Michael Lira said. "You can say I wasn't there for the physical. My stomach was hungry but my soul was hungry. Just the fulfillment, the grace of God, all the grace of God being there in one city really was a fulfillment for my soul."

We tracked their whole experience, and now they are sharing it with all of you. If you would like to see the photos they took during their trip, visit our 3News Facebook page by clicking here. We'll have a special photo album posted there.
