2014 Buc Days Celebration the Biggest in the Last Decade

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - This year's Buc Days celebration attracted more people than in any other year for the last decade, according to the president of the Buc Days Commission Monday.

Organizers say that 50,272 people paid to get into the carnival grounds this year, compared to 41,135 last year; and rodeo attendance was at 18,048 people, which is a 1.8-percent increase over last year.

Barry Box, president and CEO of Buc Days, said attendance at the carnival has increased each of the last three years.

"Increase was 22-percent over last year, and that's a huge increase, so considering all the obstacles we had with the street construction that's going on and the improvements in that area, it's amazing," Box said. "The people of Corpus Christi, when you've got a product like the carnival and you've got weather like we had this year, they will find you."

Box said the rodeo continues to grow in prominence as one of the top rodeo's in the country. That was the case the last several years, as all of the VIP boxes at the arena were sold out.

There was only one arrest during the carnival, but that was for an outstanding warrant. There were no incidents reported.

Buc Days parade organizers said that at least 100,000 people turned out to watch Saturday's Illuminated Night Parade.
