Good Night's Sleep Key to Good Health, Good Memory

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - We've long known that getting enough sleep is key to good health, but a new study suggests that it might also be key to a good memory.

The study found that women should sleep no less than five hours, but no more than nine hours at night, and it seems that consistency is key too. People who changed their sleep patterns over time, even just varying it by only two hours, developed more memory loss.

Also, the long held advice seems true here too -- a balanced night's sleep, every night, is the route to a healthy mind.

If you're looking for ways to get a better night's sleep, the folks at AARP came up with this list of tips:

- Maintain a regular sleep schedule, even on the weekends.
- Limit caffeine and alcohol, especially in the hours closer to bedtime.
- Avoid heavy meals close to bedtime.
- One suggestion that we hear frequently but can really have an effect on our overall health, including improving the quality of our sleep, is to get regular exercise.
