Man Arrested In Connection With Exotic Wildlife Ranch Investigation

Posted: Updated:
NUECES COUNTY (Kiii News) - We have new information about an Exotic Wildlife Ranch near Sandia that's being investigated by Texas Parks & Wildlife Officers. Investigators have been looking into a deer breeding operation at Lonesome Bull Ranch that Game Wardens say does not meet state requirements.

56-year-old Portland businessman Fred Rich was arrested before Noon Wednesday for allowing someone to come inside the deer breeding facility at the Ranch a few months back and shoot & kill a 22 Point Buck while the animal was still inside it's pen. Rich was paid an undisclosed amount of money for his consent.

The arrest follows a separate wildlife disease investigation at the ranch involving white tail deer. Game Wardens say the facility was in violation for not having proper tracking markings or paperwork on the deer. Investigators are also looking into whether the animals were brought in from outside of the state. If they were, those unregulated deer could spread disease.
