CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - Police have identified the auto burglary suspect in Wednesday's police chase downtown as 21-year old Nicholas Kuntscher. He now faces charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer, theft and evading arrest.

Corpus Christi Police Department detectives conducted surveillance on Kuntscher Wednesday afternoon and observed him stealing an expensive Yeti cooler. When detectives moved in to apprehend him, Kuntscher got into a sport utility vehicle and fled the scene, leading police on a chase from the Peoples Street T-Heads to the 500 block of Clifford Street.

During the chase, Kuntscher allegedly crashed into a police cruiser and then a fence at a nearby business. He fled on foot, but was arrested in the backyard of a home on Clifford Street.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident, but Kuntscher was charged with aggravated assault of a police officer because detectives said he tried to hit officers with his vehicle.
