Hundreds Walk for March of Dimes

Posted: Updated:
Hundreds of people woke up bright and early Saturday morning to support the March of Dimes by taking part in the 2014 March for Babies!  The clouds parted following last night's rain and the weather was perfect for the walk!  The event was presented by Citgo Refinery Corpus Christi and 3 News was a proud media partner.  3 News anchor Bill Churchwell emceed the event.
John Michael, Principal of Naismith Engineering said, " nearly 4 million babies are born each year, and the March of Dimes helps each and every one through more than 75 years of research, education, vaccines and breakthroughs.  More than half a million of those babies are born too soon or with a birth defect.  They are the ones that really need our help.  Because you march, more women in our community can get prenatal care and improve their chance of having a healthy baby.  You make it possible."
During the event, the RTA unveiled the first ever Corpus Christi March of Dimes branded bus, donated for one year by the Regional Transportation Authority.  The bus showcases one of the new programs called, "go before you show."  The program encourages pregnant women to get prenatal care before they are even showing.  Anyone who needs help getting prenatal care just needs to dial 211 and they will be linked with a service to help get them what they need.
