Testimony Begins in Trial of Accused Whataburger Manslaughter Suspect

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - Testimony began Tuesday morning in the trial of 31-year old David Alvarez, the man accused of punching and killing 25-year old Aaron Juarez during a dispute in a Whataburger parking lot.

It was back in June of 2013 when Alvarez allegedly punched Juarez in the parking lot of the Whataburger on Cimarron and Saratoga. Juarez reportedly dinged the vehicle beside him with his car door, prompting an argument.

Trial began Tuesday with the state entering into evidence more than 90 exhibits, including several photographs depicting blood in the parking lot, as Alvarez sat beside his attorney in a gray suit and tie.

A witness who was in the drive-thru at the time of the assault was also called to the stand, saying she contacted the police about what she saw after finding out on Facebook that the victim had died. Her friend, who knew Juarez, urged her to call the police.

Kiii News Anchor Rudy Trevino is following the case and will have more details on 3News tonight.
