96,000 Soda Pop Tabs Collected to Benefit Local Ronald McDonald House

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -     It's a story that shows how doing something simple can go a long way in helping others in need.
Our Mike Dasilva has this report about a man who has led an effort to collect something that most people throw away, and in doing so, is doing a lot of good.
Jim Bixler with the Al Amin Shrine told 3 News, "these are pull tabs that you that off of any canned item like a pop or a brew or a can of tomato juice."
Pull tabs!  Who knew they were so valuable? But they are, and that's why these folks of the Al Amin Shrine are collecting the tabs, which they then turn over to Shriners Hospital to help children.
"and when we gather these and we take them to the hospital, the hospital gets credit when they turn them over to Ronald McDonald House. That enables people who have children in our facilities to stay at the Ronald McDonald house for a ten dollar fee."
Boy did the tabs add up!  The group collected right around 96,000!
