City Discusses $1 Million Grant to Help Expand TAMUCC Engineering Program

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - Corpus Christi's City Council is set to decide in coming weeks whether to grant Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi $1 million.

TAMUCC President Flavius Killebrew had asked the City for $2 million, a request that went before the City's business and job development board. The board decided against the $2 million figure, but did agree to give half that amount.

City Council must now approve the deal, which would help the University expand its engineering program to include electrical, civil and industrial engineering. The first of those new degrees could be offered as early as the fall of 2014.

The economic impact of the expanded program for Corpus Christi could mean as much as $15 million over the next five years.
