Sinton Wins Two to Head to State

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii Sports) - The Sinton Pirates' state drought is over as Gene Kasprzyk's team is headed to Austin with two wins over Hidalgo Saturday at Calallen High School.

Sinton won the "Battle of the Pirates" against Hidalgo 5-2 in the deciding game and 11-2 earlier in the day. Sinton went into the day trailing 1-0 in the series after falling to the other Pirates 2-1 in extras Friday.

Sinton got the pace going earlier in the day with a seven-run outburst in the first inning against Hidalgo and never looked back. Sinton advances to the 3A State Semifinals at UT's Disch-Faulk Field in Austin for the first time since 2007. Their opponent will be announced tomorrow as will the start time Wednesday of either 1 p.m. or 4 p.m.
