Experts Urge Swimmers to Practice Safety, Learn CPR

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - It's not just the beaches that can prove dangerous for swimmers. A pool can also pose a threat, especially for the youngest in our community.

In fact, not long ago, a four-year old girl was found unconscious at a neighborhood pool, but was saved thanks to some fast acting bystanders.

Kiii News Reporter Anayeli Ruiz went Live from a backyard pool on Padre Island with some crucial safety tips that everyone should know.

Experts say the most crucial thing to know if they are going to spend anytime in the water, whether it be a pool or the beach, is CPR.

The American Red Cross does off some CPR classes. You can get more information about them at www.redcross.org/corpuschristi.

The YWCA and other facilities in Corpus Christi offer lessons for kids, some starting at six months of age. Parents are also encouraged to learn how to swim. Experts say every moment matters in a drowning situation.
