Alice Man Arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon

ALICE (Kiii News) - A 19-year old man wanted out of Nueces County for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon was arrested at around 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Alice.

Alice Police Officers found Dustin Moreida at his home in the 1000 block of S. Adams after receiving information that he was wanted for allegedly using a shotgun in an offense that took place in Nueces County. Police found the shotgun at his home, as well as a handgun which was reported stolen in an April 2 burglary in the 900 block of W. Front Street.

Police also discovered 7.3 grams of synthetic marijuana and a digital scale in Moreida's pockets, and seized $554 in cash that they believe to be proceeds from selling the illegal substance.

Moreida was charged with theft of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

    Two Edinburg Police Officers are recovering after they were shot Tuesday evening in La Joya as they attempted to serve a capital murder warrant. The suspect in the shooting, 29-year-old Joaquin Cibrian, was shot and killed following an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement. Cibrian was arrested in September of last year in Alice for allegedly using city equipment and materials to make extra cash. He was a city employee at the time.More >>
