Power Outage Leaves Residents and Businesses Feeling the Heat

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -      Some of you had to deal with power outages in Corpus Christi on Sunday. It even caused some major traffic headaches at intersections where the traffic lights were not working.
Officers had to direct traffic for a few hours at Weber and SPID.  The power went out right around lunch time. This, after an official with AEP Texas said tree branches on power lines caused the problem for circuit breakers.
The outage affected nearly 1700 customers. AEP has a few tips for many costumers who might have trees near power lines in their yards.
AEP Spokesman Andy Heines told 3 News, "It's always best not to plant a tree during the utility rights of way. They grow into the power lines and we have to cut them away from the power lines for safety and reliability issues."
If you have tree branches that are getting too close to power lines, you should not attempt to trim them yourself.  Instead call a professional or AEP and they will come trim the tree.
