Hooks Roughed Up By RoughRiders in Homestand Finale

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (CC Hooks) - Frisco's Luke Jackson permitted one hit and two runs over five innings and his teammates struck for six fifth-inning runs as the RoughRiders beat Corpus Christi 10-2 Saturday before 6,555. Jackson (8-2), the Texas League's winningest pitcher, has held the opposition to three or fewer earned runs in 11 of 13 starts. Saturday, the 6-foot-2 right-hander walked and struck out three in a 73-pitch effort (44 strikes).

Jon Edwards then faced the minimum over three frames. Aided by a sixth-inning double play, he walked one and struck out six.

Rene Garcia drove in the night's first run with his club's lone hit. He sent Carlos Perdomo home from second with a second-inning, two-out single on a run-and-hit play.

The speed of Delino DeShields, Jr., broke Frisco's back during the third as Corpus Christi tallied without the benefit of a hit. DeShields worked a lead-off walk and motored all the way to third when Ruben Sosa laid down a 5-3 sacrifice bunt. Nolan Fontana's sacrifice fly to the center-field warning track picked up DeShields.

Hooks starter Brady Rodgers allowed one hit through the first four frames but was unable to register an out in the fifth. Frisco collected five straight hits, including run-scoring doubles by Drew Robinson and Teodoro Martinez, to force Rodgers from the contest down 4-2. Alex Sogard retired Tomas Telis on a comebacker, but Trever Adams' seventh home run, a blast into the Hooks bullpen, ran the score to 6-2.

Edwin Garcia and Jake Skole (RBI) reached base on infield singles deflected by Rodgers (1-9), who suffered his sixth straight loss. Rodgers walked one and struck out two.

Martinez' third RBI of the game extended the Frisco lead to 7-2 in the sixth. Sogard paid for three free passes and was lifted for Richard Rodriguez. Telis' two-out, book-rule double off Rodriguez plated Garcia (lead-off walk) two innings later. Rodriguez was also the victim of Robinson's two-run homer into the right-field bullpen.

The Hooks begin a four-game series in San Antonio on Father's Day. First pitch is 2:05, Josh Geer (2-6) striding to the mound against Corpus Christi's David Rollins (0-2).
