Brooks County Reaction to Governor's Plan

Posted: Updated:
The Brooks County Sheriff's Department says it remains to be seen what impact the governor's decision to spend almost a million and half dollars a week to secure the border will have.  This week Governor Rick Perry announce that he and other state leaders directed the Texas Department of Public Safety to immediately begin law enforcement surge operations on the Texas-Mexico border. The governor says the move is to to combat the flood of illegal immigration into the state in the absence of adequate federal resources. The chief deputy of the Brooks County Sheriff's Department Benny Martinez says in order for the surge of operations to be successful, it will have to be a sustained effort for 12 months or longer.
