Residents Have Their Say About Decommissioning City Parks

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - City Council got an earful Tuesday from residents who were against the City decommissioning some of the 24 public parks listed for sale or lease.

The City made the determination through how much the parks were used, cost of maintenance and duplication if there was another park close by.

Resident after resident spoke during public commentary Tuesday, telling Council why their neighborhood park should be saved. City staff said three of the original 27 parks have been adopted since the decommissioning study and that process will remain open for anyone who wants to save a particular city park.

City Council members offered amendments to the resolution, clearly stating that the proceeds from any park land sale would only go to park maintenance and improvements. The decommissioning will not happen until voters have their say at the polls in November.
