Eric Dimick Gets 60 Years in Prison for Aggravated Kidnapping

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - Closing arguments in the punishment phase of the trial of Eric Dimick wrapped up Monday afternoon in the 319th District Court. Jurors decided on a 60-year prison sentence for his charge of aggravated kidnapping.

Last week, jurors found Dimick guilty in the aggravated kidnapping case of an 11-year old girl back in 2012, but were deadlocked when deliberating a verdict for the charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child. Dimick is the third and final defendant to go to the trial for the 2012 kidnapping and rape of an 11-year old girl.

The girl's mother took the stand first on Monday, describing her daughter as an outgoing and confident child who was involved in mixed martial arts and jump roping. She said her daughter was a straight-A student who was extremely disappointed after getting her first B in school.

After the incident, however, the 11-year old girl began to suffer from anxiety attacks "that kept getting worse and worse," her mother said, adding that ever since being kidnapped, the young girl wants to carry a Taser around with her.

The girl's father took the stand next, saying that his daughter was a different person after the kidnapping.

After the prosecution rested, the defense called a psychologist to the stand who said Dimick was self-medicating with drugs like meth and synthetic marijuana to treat himself for psychological problems at the time of the abduction. The psychologist added that, when not taking drugs, Dimick would not be a threat to others and could be a productive member of society.
