U.S. Marshals Detain Suspect in June 27 Alice Shooting

VICTORIA, Texas (Kiii News) - The man wanted in a shooting that occurred June 27 in the 1000 block of Pierce Street in Alice was arrested by U.S. Marshals Tuesday afternoon in Victoria, Texas, while riding a bus en route to Houston.

Alice police had issued a warrant for the arrest of 35-year old Samuel Vela after gathering evidence at the scene of the shooting. Residents in the area of Pierce Street had reported hearing shots fired. Nobody was hurt in the shooting.

Working with the Alice Police Department, U.S. Marshals were able to determine Vela's location. They believe he was heading to Houston in order to avoid being captured.

Vela was also arrested on a warrant out of Goliad County for a probation violation.
