Beaches Packed to Capacity this Fourth of July

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - For some, the Fourth of July just wouldn't be the same without a trip to the beach, and that's exactly where a few thousand of your friends and neighbors spent the day on Friday.

Scott Cross with Nueces County's Coastal Parks Department said the crowds this year have been incredible in size, and that it has been a trend over the last few years. More than 300 beach parking permits were issued in just the first few hours of Friday morning. Permits for overnight camping are also in high demand.

Cross said that while they would like to be able to accommodate more visitors, there simply isn't enough space. However, that will change come next Fourth of July.

"That's what we're planning for. We're trying to get ahead," Cross said. "We're focusing on infrastructure needs that we need to do to make improvements so that we can expand the customer experience when they get out here for next year, and we're going to be starting a lot of those in October. We're going to be breaking ground at both locations, doing a lot of improvements."

Those improvements will include the county facilities at Bob Hall Pier and the one at Horace Caldwell Pier.
