Visitors from All Around Spend Fourth of July in Corpus Christi

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - One hard-to-miss sight this Fourth of July was the traffic -- visitors from all over came to the Coastal Bend to celebrate Independence Day a number of locations and events.

There was a steady stream of traffic Friday along I-37 in the Mathis area as vehicles, mostly from San Antonio, made their way to the Coastal Bend. Of course, another highly trafficked area was Park Road 22 on Padre Island, which was packed with vehicles heading to Padre Island beaches and Port Aransas.

The stepped up advertising in places like San Antonio, Austin and Houston apparently paid off for the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau.

From Port Aransas to the Padre Island National Seashore, this Fourth of July was wall-to-wall with beachgoers with tents, umbrellas and, of course, their cars.
Incidentally, most of the people 3News spoke with said they planned to stay the entire weekend.

Elsewhere, from Cole Park to McGee Beach, there were plenty of people out enjoying the nice weather Friday. Visitors from all over spent their Fourth of July taking photos of the Selena Memorial, riding the Harbor Ferry, barbecuing at Cole Park and enjoying some fun in the water and on the sand at McGee Beach.

People from as far as Columbia and Venezuela, and places as close to home as San Antonio, Austin, Laredo and beyond, decided to enjoy the sparkling city by the sea on this glorious Fourth of July.
