Truck Accident on Highway 361 Ruptures Gas Line, Four People Hospitalized

PORT ARANSAS (Kiii News) - Traffic on Highway 361 to Port Aransas was brought to a standstill for some time shortly after 9:30 p.m. Friday when the driver of a Ford pickup rear-ended a Toyota pickup, causing it to strike and puncture a gas line.

Emergency crews had to evacuate homes within a 1,000-foot radius of the punctured line.

According to Detective Seth Rosebrook of the Port Aransas Police Department, a total of eight people were involved in the accident. Four were transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance in unknown condition.

Crews on the scene managed to cap the punctured gas line shortly before midnight, but residents in the area will be without gas until workers are able to make repairs. Detective Rosebrook said those repairs will likely begin Saturday morning, as officers do not want workers on the side of the highway overnight.

Police determined that the driver of the Ford pickup was at fault, and gave consent to have blood drawn to see if he was under the influence.
