Police Release DWI, Firework Citation Numbers from Holiday Weekend

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - A total of 28 DWI arrests were made over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, according to the Corpus Christi Police Department.

Police say they assigned additional officers to assist with the large crowds at the beach and downtown this year, and also sent officers to accompany the Corpus Christi Fire Department on their fireworks detail.

The following is a breakdown of DWIs for each day of the holiday weekend:

July 3: 7
July 4: 6
July 5: 6
July 6: 9

During the same time frame in 2013, there were 15 DWI arrests.

Police also reported that between 6 p.m. July 4 and 5 a.m. July 5, dispatch received a total of 1,570 calls for service -- in the same time frame last year they received 1,178 calls for service.

Of the calls this year, 491 were solely for fireworks. In 2013, there were 395 fireworks calls.

Police issued 42 citations for fireworks over the holiday weekend.
