Store Manager Accused of Sexually Assaulting a Child Goes to Trial

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - Dollar store Assistant Manager Victor Sanchez, 24, was in court Tuesday for the alleged sexual assault of a five-year old inside of the store in November of 2013.

Family members of the victim told police that Sanchez assaulted their child when he escorted the victim to the restroom.

Carol Laughlin from Driscoll Children's Hospital was among the first caregivers to check the child after her outcry. She was the first of several prosecution witnesses presented Tuesday. Another was detective Lee Galloway.

In afternoon testimony, prosecutors presented Sanchez' interview with Galloway. In the video, Sanchez appeared to be sobbing and his voice was barely audible as the detective asked him several times to come clean.

Galloway asked Sanchez "are you the boogie man that everyone says to look out for?" Sanchez does not respond.

The trial continues Wednesday in Judge Longoria's 214th District Court.
