Crashed Plane Airlifted Out of Padre National Seashore

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - A private plane that had to make an emergency crash landing on the bay side of the Padre Island National Seashore back in June was removed from the area by helicopter Thursday morning.

A salvage company working with the private plane insurer and the National Park Service sent a helicopter to remove the plane due to the fragile nature of the ecosystem in that location. Park staff blocked off a corner of the Malaquite Visitor Center parking lot to allow for staging before the plane was removed.

It was June 3 when the pilot of the plane was forced to make the emergency landing due to engine troubles, landing on a mudflat and then flipping over. Thankfully, the pilot only received minor injuries and was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard.
