ROCKPORT (Kiii News) - The names of those involved in a boating accident that left one man dead Sunday morning in Copano Bay, just north of Rockport, were released Monday morning.

According to officials, 51-year old Roy Pena was killed in the accident. The owner of the boat, 52-year old Robert Alvarez, and a 14-year old girl were rescued without injury.

It was around 9:30 a.m. when the U.S. Coast Guard Corpus Christi Sector received a distress call from a 24-foot center console boat taking on water. The three passengers had put on their life jackets and abandoned the sinking boat.

Rescue helicopters were dispatched and crews found two people clinging to a platform in the bay and one man floating and unresponsive in the water nearby. The unresponsive man, later identified as Roy Pena, was transported to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital along with the 14-year old girl. Alvarez, who suffered no injury, was picked up last.

Emergency crews immediately began CPR on Pena after pulling him from the water, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Both Alvarez and the 14-year old passenger are expected to be okay.
