Board Officially Names Dr. Hernandez Next CCISD Superintendent

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - The Corpus Christi Independent School District board of trustees held a vote at special called board meeting Thursday morning to officially name Dr. Roland Hernandez as the district's next superintendent.

The board offered Hernandez a three-year contract beginning Aug. 14 and ending June 30, 2017. The contract includes an annual salary of $242,000 as well as allowances for an annual $15,000 annuity/tax deferral stipend, monthly $800 automobile expense, monthly $100 cell phone reimbursement and full payment of monthly health care costs. Hernandez will also receive a $9,000 annual cost of living stipend and the opportunity to receive a $10,000 annual bonus based on his job performance.

The total compensation package is $286,800, which ranks in the median salary range for similar-sized districts in Texas, according to a Superintendent Report from the Texas Association of School Boards.

Hernandez was named the sole finalist for the superintendent's position on July 24. State law says the board must wait 21 das before a contract can be signed.

Hernandez has worked for the CCISD since 2010 and currently serves as Chief Administrative Officer.
