CORPUS CHRISTI (CC Hooks) - Chris Devenski pitched six innings of two-run ball as Corpus Christi beat Northwest Arkansas 4-2 Thursday night at Whataburger Field before 4,664.

The Hooks (23-30; 57-66) captured their final series of 2014 with the Naturals (25-27; 50-72) two games to one.

Devenski (4-3) allowed five hits, walked two and struck out six in an 85-pitch performance (55 strikes). Tyson Perez struck out the side in the ninth for his 10th save in 10 opportunities. In between, Ruben Alaniz tossed two scoreless innings, working around two-on, two-out trouble in the seventh.

The Hooks rode a walk, single, sacrifice bunt and RBI ground out to a 1-0 first-inning advantage vs. Tim Melville (1-10). Tony Kemp drew the lead-off free pass and scored on Colin Moran's bouncer to second. Teoscar Hernandez placed a hooking bloop single into shallow right and Leo Heras laid down the sac.

Carlos Perdomo took Melville deep for his second home run in as many nights, a two-out 393-foot shot to left, as Corpus Christi added a pair during the second.

Conrad Gregor smoked a line drive triple off the center-field wall to open the home fourth and Tyler Heineman's single to right an out later extended Corpus Christi's lead to 4-0.

That capped Melville's four-inning, seven-hit, three-walk outing. He struck out two.

Brian Fletcher put Northwest Arkansas on the board with a lead-off homer to begin the fifth, and the Naturals doubled their output the next frame. Jorge Bonifacio walked and went first to third when Orlando Calixte singled down the left-field line. Hunter Dozier's ground out tallied Bonifacio.

Each team benefited from a head-turning defensive play in the outfield. Bonifacio soared over the bullpen fence in right field, robbing Heras of a home run in the third. Hernandez ran down Fletcher's screamer in center to save an eighth-inning run.
