I got these pictures in my email today it's scary to see soo many snakes at the Beach, Snakes found at Matagorda Beach

that is way to many snakes.they need to do something about it

People should leave them alone and find another beach if they don't like the snakes. The snakes were there 1st. Marty

Why are we having more rattlesnakes this year? It is horrible. I am afraid to walk out the door early in the morning and late aftrenoons. We have chidlren and it is sad that they cannot run freely in our yard for fear of a snake coming up.

The snakes aren't doing anything wrong, they're simply looking for food, there's probably rodents or something near that area. Just let them be, they aren't hurting anyone.

Honey, those snakes have been out there forever. We used to walk back up in the dunes (before all the condos) and they were everywhere and still are. They are all over south Texas. Move to Vermont.

what part of Matagorda Beach hopefully not by the gulf intracoastal waterway my friend lives by their and she is worried now lol

Least those snakes aren't destroying everything they touch like people do. Everywhere 'we' go, call it paradise...kiss it goodbye.

i got those photos too, if you look closely, they are not on our beach, but we do have snakes out there.

I don't think that is the beach, it looks like west Texas. There are too many rocks in the picture.

Thats a picture from a ranch in Arizona called the Rancho Sante Fe. Channel 3 needs to get better information before they show things.

it's not channel 3 who posted these pictures it was a younews user and and it's not AZ I lived in AZ it doesn't look like that

John Do you need to pay more attention to what you are posting don't you know that this portion of the website if for people to post stuff?.. if Channel 3 would post anything they would mark it clearly KIII TV check other posting and you will see!

Rancho Santa Fe is in California

IN 25 YEARS OF HERPING NEVE SEEN ANY KIND OF SNAKE PILE ON TOP OF ONE ANOTHER COIL YES . LOOKS TOO BE ROUNDUP AND A PHOTO OPP. OR THE INDIANA JOES MOVIE SET.

The congregation looks to be an emergence from an over wintering site. Alot of rattlesnakes species congregate in a suitable location to remain above freezing durning the winter. In the spring they emerge. That looks like what happening.

Thanks for that info Jeremy that makes sense....

would the rattlesnakes in south tx where the temps in jan only dip to the low 50's would they be in a wintering site. also i recieved the e-mil via a friend in tx, he got the e-mail photo from a guy who ststed he took the photo in arizona.

I got the email and it said it was in wyoming

This is a photo from an area south of Salt Lake City, Utah. It's not a beach and your children aren't in any danger. The photo was taken on a very warm weekend a few weeks ago.

Warren, snakes do hibernate in So TX but usually in lone den locations that are much more shallow. Snakes from cooler climates need to get deeper under ground and suitable sights are not as wide spread hence why they come together like in this photo.

Also, I can tell for certain that these snakes were not found on the beach. This species doesn't occur in coastal areas. I believe it is Crotalus viridis or one of the former members of the viridis group. In lay terms a prairie rattlesnake.

jeremy thanks for the insight.

The beach is for people to enjoy, so why should people have to find another spot. Snakes belong in the brush. Whether it's a prairie rattler or whatever, it's still dangerous. I hate snakes they give me the creeps!!

Doesn't matter where the picture is from, even if it is from another state. What it does show, is a great depiction of what one might find if not cautious while at the beach on the coast of Texas. Should you venture past the dunes don't be surprised

Hello, I know the person that took the Picture, he presented them in our Safety Council meeting, Its in South Texas !! around Corpus !!!! Geez you poeple !!!!

the snake species in that photo is a prairie rattler central texas and up they come no where near matagorda county, we have western diamondbacks at the beach area , also occasional timber and pygmies.

well i live close to the beach and i go all the time and i have never seen snakes like that anywhere along the beach ,, and if they are out like they are looking for water or food dont you think ,well anyway i am not going around them

One of the amazing things about South Texas is that it still has wildlife like this, even if it is a bunch of rattlesnakes. That's what makes Texas great and unlike any place in the world.

keep your kids close, can become a bad day at the beach real quick!!

DONT BELIEVE IT,WE HAVE TO MANY' COYOTE'S OUT ON THE BEACH,LET'S BE REALISTIC GUY'S,AND LADIE'S THIS MIGHT BE SOME REAL.OR SORT IF TAKEN IN ORANGE,GROVE TEXAS?

Rattler-snakes are the kind of retile that will let you know it's there, I was almost bit by a rattle-snake once and it was scary.

A WISEMAN TOLD ME ONCE THAT NO MATTER WHERE THESE SNAKES ARE, DON'T BOTHER THEM, LET THEM BE.... AND I MYSELF HAVE YET TO SEE A RATTLESNAKE AT THE BEACH ANYWHERE ALONE THE GULF COAST.. SO THIS PICTURE MAY VERY WELL BE A HOAX.....

Been around for a year its west Texas. Look at vegetation...

Wiseman, I'm not sure where or from whom the pictures originated, but I am sure of one thing, there are most deffinately rattle snakes on the Texas Gulf coast and in the entire state of Texas. In the winter beach Rattlers lay strait and still sunning.
