Despite half a dozen trips to City Hall and meeting personally with both Assistant City Manager Margie Rose and Code Enforcement’s Director Yvonne Haag, Corpus Christi Citizens’ requests and complaints continue to fall on deaf ears.
All three of these sidewalks are located within walking distance of the schools in Flour Bluff. There is no school bus service for students who must use these sidewalks if they walk or ride their bicycles to school. Ms. Rose and Ms. Haag have been reminded of this fact for several years now, and both choose to turn blind eyes and deaf ears to citizens’ requests to ensure that these sidewalks are maintained for the safety of school children. Ms. Rose has actually called and stated that the sidewalks had been cleaned up, when in fact nothing at all had been done and the grass was as tall as ever.
And here is the part of this report that is truly disheartening; the sidewalks in two of these pictures are located on CITY PROPERTY. Isn’t it time for Bureaucratic Underachievers to be shown the door. There is no Sarah Palin working at City Hall, at least not yet.
When asked why these conditions continue to exist, Director of Code Enforcement Yvonne Haag said, because people don’t cut their grass. Wasn’t quite the answer I was looking for, but she was right because not even the City will cut the grass on it’s property shown in these pictures. These two City Employees shame this community by their indifferences and callous disregard of the safety and wellbeing of our children not only in Flour Bluff, but throughout the City of Corpus Christi.

It's ashame that young children have to walk on these sidewalks in Flour Bluff. Children learn by example. What message are they receiving?
