A grass fire raged in high winds at 3 pm this afternoon in the Wood River subdivision on the Northwest side of Corpus Christi. The fire was in close proximity to neighboring homes and many homeowners were working the edge of the fire with water hoses and shovels. Several fire departments arrived on the scene with brush trucks to extinguish the flames which had spread very quickly in the dry grass of a neighboring pasture. Several witnesses said the cause of the fire was youngsters burning the plastic wheels off a 3 wheeled scooter, which was found upwind of the burn.
