San Antonio, Texas- Civil Air Patrol Officers and Cadets from Corpus Christi and Kingsville participated in a Search and Rescue Exercise in southern San Antonio on 21 March 2009.
The Corpus Christi Composite Squadron (CC-CAP) assisted with the running of the mission base of this State Wide Exercise that involved untis from Amarillo to Houston. The whole of the unit deployed en masse to augument the primarily San Antonio Area staff.
"We learned a great deal today in San Antonio," said Major Joe Ely Carrales CC-CAP Squadron Commander, "we will apply those lessons to enrich Civil Air Patrol Emergency Service and Search and Rescue Activities in South Texas' Coastal Bend."
The Civil Air Patrol is the official Auxiliary of the US Air Force and has three main missions; Emergency Services, Aerospace Education and Cadet Programs.
Civil Air Patrol has had a presence in Corpus Christi since WWII, at which time CAP aircraft launched from Corpus Christi's Coastal Patrol Base 15 worked to deter Axis submaries from preying on coastal shipping,
