CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On May 1, Texas Governor Greg Abbott gave the green light for restaurants to reopen their dining rooms after nearly two months of being forced to close. That was phase 1 of reopening Texas. While some eateries have decided to reopen their dining rooms, others have not.
Pam Zhou is the owner of Jaja Cafe. She said having the chairs put up while the dining room remains closed is worth it even if it means not seeing as many customers as usual.
"For safety of customers and employees, that's a better way," Zhou said. "The issue gets improved then we can definitely reopen for dine-in."
Eager to return -- Zhou is also nervous because she said the numbers are still increasing daily. She fears the possibility of someone coming in with the virus.
Every dollar counts and Zhou said even though they're not as busy, she's thankful to still find a way with curbside and carry-out to keep her staff employed.
"Certain income is good for business and also good for employees so they have a job, and they can support their families," Zhou said. "Certainly better than totally shut down."
Zhou and her staff continue to follow safety precautions like wearing gloves, masks and checking temperatures.
