The state-wide shutdown because of the coronavirus pandemic forced the City of Corpus Christi to cancel 27 events. It's estimated the city lost about $22M in revenue during the process. However, the City got a huge win today as a major event is signing on with the city for the next three years.
The Skills USA Texas Convention signed a contract to hold their events here for the next three years. The Convention is held every spring for high school students across the state.
It brings over 10,000 high school students and their families every year. We've hosted the event since 2007.
"We are warmer, we have hundreds of miles of beaches, and we do have some great practices in place to make sure we are keeping people safe," Erica Bhakta Executive Vice President said.
Skills USA Texas is one of the largest conventions that Corpus Christi hosts. When it returns in 2021, it will bring an estimated $8M to the local economy.
