LULAC Council #1 hosted the Feria de las Flores Leadership Pageant Saturday night.
The pageant is a tradition that dates back to 1959. each contestant is put through a six month training program which focuses on leadership, communication skills, and cultural awareness.
Dr. Nick Adame told 3 News, "we are looking at a year long leadership program in which we have several young ladies that go thru different clinics and many conferences concerning leadership and latina and Texas history."
All participants receive scholarship funds, and the newly crowned Feria de las Flores queen wins the top scholarship prize of $2000 dollars.
