Trying to keep things warm over at the local animal shelter during these cold snaps has been a problem for a few years now, so 3News checked out the shelter on Friday to see if the dogs and cats had heat.

Thankfully, the housing facilities were quite warm.

A few circuit breakers had been tripped, but were turned back on and no other incidents were reported with the heating system.

"For the last couple of years, as long as I've been over there, we've always kind of kept our fingers crossed whenever we got a real ad cold snap because we had been having some issues over there, but this year they seem to be working fine," said Commander Todd Green of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "I understand we had a couple of breakers that tripped, but once we reset them, the heaters are working fine this morning."

Green added that a number of AC/heating specialists had been called to try and get the heaters working. He is happy that their work held up during this freeze event.
