Starting Monday, students at Yeager Elementary will no longer be allowed to bring backpacks to school. This comes following an incident that happened on Friday.

A fourth-grade girl was slightly injured after a BB gun shot ricocheted and struck her in the cheek in the playground after school last Friday. Another student had fired the BB gun inside of an enclosed slide.

Now, students will only be allowed to carry binders and books at school.

School officials said they had planned to start the backpack ban next school year because students were starting to bring some questionable items to school. However, in light of Friday's incident, they decided to get a jump start on that policy.
