There has been word that Bee County may be getting a new jail in the next few years. The Bee County Sheriff says the new facility is desperately needed.

"We need to do something to progress, because the future's coming and all we're doing is putting money into a facility, and money that could be used wisely in building a better facility and less maintenance," Bee County Sheriff Carlos Carrizales said.

Carrizales gave 3News a tour of the current jail Wednesday. The jail is 25 years old, with cracks littering the floors and walls. The sheriff said the jail is in constant need of repairs.

County Judge David Silva said the commissioners court is considering building a new jail, but said he is not comfortable adding more burden to the taxpayers.
