Dick Peltz, a longtime Corpus Christi Independent School District principal who served as a part-time and then full-time pastor, died Monday night of congestive heart failure.
He left the pulpit at the South Shore Christian Church in September of 2012 because of a kidney ailment.
Peltz spent decades as an educator with the CCISD and was proud of his accomplishments, according to Senior Pastor John Seekamp.
"He was a game changer," Seekamp said. "He went to Wynn Seale and turned that school around into an award winning school, and then to Miller High School and turned that school around into an award winning school. He was the choir director and organ player here."
Seekamp said Peltz was instrumental in bringing new life to the church and its congregation. He returned to the pulpit after finishing his tenure at the school back in 2009.
Peltz did something no other Christian church pastor has done, according to Seekamp.
"He's so inspirational. He inspired, while he was here, seven congregation members to enter the ministry, myself included," Seekamp said. "very inspirational person."
Seekamp said that funeral services for Peltz have been tentatively set for 4 p.m. Sunday at the First Christian Church on Santa Fe.
