A popular figure in the Catholic Diocese, the Most Reverend Edmond Carmody, has announced that he will be leaving the Coastal Bend for a job in Tyler, TX.
The retired Corpus Christi Bishop will be taking a position in the Chancery Office of the Diocese there. The job was offered to him by his longtime friend Bishop Joseph Strickland, who was just ordained the Bishop of Tyler.
"This is something he wanted to do," said Marty Wind, director of communication for the Diocese of Corpus Christi. "He has some friends in Tyler, and there is a new bishop in Tyler. So he wants to go back up and see if he can be of service. So we're happy for him. He is happy in his retirement. That's the important thing. We're going to miss him."
Carmody was named the seventh bishop of Corpus Christi back in 2000. He previously served as bishop of Tyler for eight years.
