Bishop high school student athletes self isolating due to potential exposure to COVID-19

A Bishop High School student athlete who participated in the schools summer workout program has been exposed to COVID-19.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — UPDATE: The unidentified athlete had a sibling test positive for the virus late last week according to Superintendent Christina Gutierrez.

 Ms.Gutierrez said in an interview today that the school district will continue to take the proper precautions, but that after cleaning the facilities workouts could possibly resume as early as next Monday.  

 "We are shutting it down for the week. we felt like we took all the proper precautions last week when we started with the workouts. We were sanitizing, we were bombing the facilities, we were wiping down all the equipment as guided by the UIL. Today we continued to do that and we're going to do it all week long. and hopefully next Monday on the 22nd we'll be able to return our students back." Said Superintendent Gutierrez. 


Bishop CISD announced a student athlete at Bishop High School has been exposed to COVID-19. 

According to the district the student attended the schools summer workout program. The program has been suspended until test results arrive. The student athletes in the program were "in groups of ten or less when working out indoors and 15 when 

According to the district the student has not tested positive for the virus. The district is following guidelines and has informed student athletes who were in the same group as the student who was exposed to the virus. The district has informed the parents to self isolate.
