Car break-ins put south side neighborhood on edge

A neighborhood off of Holly and Rodd Field has been targeted by burglars.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Corpus Christi neighborhood has taken extra precaution after dozens of cars were broken into on Saturday morning.

Surveillance footage from one of the homes off of Spitfire Drive captured two cars pulling up at the end of the street. Multiple suspects exited the vehicle then scattered down the street and checked car door handles to find one that was open.

One of the victims, Michelle Rodriguez said, her iPad and sensitive work documents were taken.

"I never thought this would happen to us, we've got everybody checking cameras to see if they caught their license plate," she said.

Luckily, multiple houses in the area have security cameras. Rodriguez said they caught the cars, a description of one of the suspects and a license plate.

"Being violated, makes you angry," Michelle's fiance, Adan Garcia said.

The couple said other people in the neighborhood had tools and expensive equipment stolen, like laptops.

"How do I feel now that we've been violated like this?" Rodriguez said she's scared to be home alone now.

Another neighbor, George Rosas, said it's especially concerning because there are several elderly couples that live in the area.

"It's not right, we worry, we have a lot of elderly people here in their 70's," Rosas said.

The residents said they're worried the burglars will escalate from cars to homes.

They said they will have to make a police report on Tuesday. If you have any information in regards to the string of break-ins, you're asked to contact CCPD.
