Law enforcement officers across the state and here in Corpus Christi left their patrol cars behind on Wednesday and hit the streets on foot. It was all part of the annual Torch Run benefiting Special Olympics Texas.
Men and women from the Corpus Christi Police Department put on their running shoes and joined law officers from McAllen as they continued in the final leg of this year's Torch Run, which ends Friday in Arlington, the site of this year's Special Olympics Summer Games.
"The law enforcement Torch Run is for law enforcement agencies to support the Special Olympics," CCPD Senior Officer Kirk Stowers said. "These special athletes are special in our hearts. We care for them a lot, so we are very proud to do these type of fundraisers."
After Wednesday's stretch in Corpus Christi, the torch will make its way to San Antonio.
