CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Police Department's newest k9 officer was officially welcomed to the force Monday during a special ceremony at the Gulf Coast Humane Society.

The new dog is named Damon, and he joined the force in January as a narcotic dog with Officer Devin Haywood. Haywood is the previous handler for k9 officer Indy, who retired back in January.

Damon is here thanks to a $12,000 dollar donation by the Gulf Coast Humane Society who will be sponsoring the animal. He will be ready to go out on patrol once he and his handler pass their certification exam in May.
