Firefighters were called out to a fire at the U.S. Ecology facility in the 3200 block of County Road 69, just south of Robstown, at around 10:40 a.m. Thursday. A shelter in place order was issued as firefighters tried to determine what kind of chemical was burning.

According to their website, U.S. Ecology processes and disposes of chemical and hazardous wastes.

By around noon, firefighters were able to get the flames under control. Nobody was injured. The shelter in place order was lifted at around 11:50 a.m.

Fire investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the fire, and what chemical was burning. Crews remained on the scene after the fire was contained to monitor the situation.
