City of Kingsville provides brush drop off locations following destructive storm

Public works crews will be picking up brush today and drop off locations will remain open for brush drop off.

KINGSVILLE, Texas — Power is back for most people in the city of Kingsville after a strong storm knocked out power to almost 10,000 people Thursday night.  By Sunday morning, that number had been drastically reduced to just under 300 people.

As crews with AEP Texas work to connect the remaining homes and businesses without power, the city asks that you continue to check on the elderly and anyone who might need assistance as we see extremely hot temperatures here in South Texas.

The good news is that the city has said there were no storm related injuries.  However, it did cause plenty of damage including damage to plenty of trees.

Public works crews will be picking up brush today and drop off locations will remain open for brush drop off.  The city of Corpus Christi is said to have helped by providing additional trucks to help with the removal of brush.

Brush staging areas are open and accepting brush ONLY. Locations are:

- Trash Off location on 6th and Avenue B

- Precinct 4 at Santa Gertrudis and 14th Street.

Hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

- LE Ramey Golf Course will serve as 3rd location from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Drop offs will continue to be accepted next week and until further notice. If you choose to drop off after hours, you can, but there will be no one there to assist you.

Texas A&M University-Kingsville is expecting most of the damage on campus to be cleaned up by Monday and power has been restored at the dorms and the dining hall.  Both are back to normal operations.

A survey found damage in the city to at least 15 structures caused by a 90 mph down-burst of straight line winds according to a National Weather Service team from Corpus Christi.
