There have been a number of cold stunned sea turtles who've turned up along our State's coastline this winter. More may turn up over the next few days as our temperatures are expected to drop to freezing. Young green sea turtles that live along the coast forage on algae and sea grass, especially in the Laguna Madre. Temperatures in its shallow waters can drop rapidly. Combine that with plummeting air temperatures and high winds and you have a recipe for disaster for reptiles unable to control their body temperature. So, as always the public should be on the lookout for those turtles and call the Padre Island National Seashore immediately at 361-949-8173 ext. 268 if you spot one.
